A version of the full score of an opera or other large scale work, in which the orchestral parts are rewritten to be playable on the piano which accompanies early rehearsals. It is much more convenient to carry around than the full score, which is expensive to reproduce, and impractical to read. It is the working copy of the score that soloists, their coaches and répétiteurs, use.
